Fish Oil — How I Choose Read my experience & sources

Val’s experience

Fish oil has been a staple in my routine for years. I rotate brands and use Certifications by Nutrasource to look for independent testing, rather than choosing by the front label alone.

What I look for

Check the actual EPA and DHA amounts, the serving size, and the exact product or lot’s testing report. IFOS certification concerns product quality and testing; it does not prove a supplement will produce a particular health result.

Worth knowing

Total fish-oil weight is different from the EPA + DHA content. Needs vary with diet and health. Discuss supplement use with a clinician if you take medication, have a bleeding condition, or are preparing for surgery.

Magnesium L-Threonate — Double Wood / Magtein® Read my experience & sources

Val’s experience

I use Double Wood Supplements’ Magtein magnesium L-threonate about an hour before bed. It has been a game changer for my sleep, and I’ve kept it in my routine for years. That is my personal experience; other people may respond differently.

About the ingredient

Magtein is a trademarked magnesium L-threonate ingredient used in multiple brands. Check your bottle for the manufacturer, serving size, and elemental magnesium amount; compound weight and elemental magnesium are different.

What the research says

Sleep findings are still developing. A six-week randomized trial reported improvements in some self-reported sleep measures, but not objective sleep measures. It is not an established treatment for insomnia.

Worth knowing

Magnesium can cause digestive effects and interact with certain medicines. Seek individualized advice if you have kidney disease or take medication.

Creatine — Kion Read my experience & sources

Val’s experience

I’ve used Kion creatine for years. My personal routine is 5 grams mixed with water in the morning. This describes my own use, not a dose recommendation for others. It is one of the supplements I’ve consistently kept in my routine.

What the evidence supports

Creatine monohydrate has substantial research behind its use for strength and repeated high-intensity exercise, particularly alongside training. That evidence supports the ingredient; it does not establish that one brand is uniquely effective.

Worth knowing

Water-weight changes and digestive discomfort can occur. People with kidney disease or other medical concerns should discuss use with their clinician. Consistent training, food, and recovery remain foundational.

My experience, with sources you can explore. I learn from podcasts including Huberman Lab and Ben Greenfield Life, alongside research and independent testing. Podcast discussions and sponsorships are not the same as clinical evidence or independent product verification.
